Jana Gana Mana – National Anthem — Meaning in Brief
This is a hymn of homage to the one who guides the minds of all the people and is the giver of Bharat’s fortune. It names lands and regions, the Vindhya and Himachal mountains, the Yamuna and Ganga rivers, and the rising waves of the sea. These are said to awaken at the auspicious name, to ask for its blessing and to sing the song of its victory. The second verse addresses the same figure as the bringer of well-being to all the people, and the anthem ends with repeated cries of victory.
When to recite: It is sung as a patriotic song, including on Independence Day and Republic Day.
